American Antagonistic Political System and the Chaotic Society

Joe Biden, the US presidential candidate, triumphed, leaving Donald Trump in a state of utter confusion. Support in Pennsylvania and Nevada allowed the Democratic nominee to win more than 290 votes, which earned him the approval of a majority of the Electoral College. This outcome of the presidential election seriously worried Donald Trump, who still refuses to admit defeat and intends to prove that the vote in favor of his competitor was rigged. This means that, probably until the end of 2021, there will actually be two presidents in the United States: one, who rejects even the hypothesis of his own fiasco, and the second, who has become the favorite of the electoral race, but is forced to defend the election results in the Supreme Court.

Joe Biden’s victory was made possible thanks to the traditional US mail-order voting system, which in the past has not caused any unexpected results. The COVID-19 pandemic has made significant adjustments to the presidential election. So, if in the pre-conavirus time, the votes of voters, as a rule, were known in advance, and voting by mail, for the most part, represented only a formal procedure, the result of which was obvious, then under the conditions of restrictions associated with COVID-19, the political strategists of the head of the White House failed to prepare the electoral opinion in advance, as a result of which the results of voting by mail came as a complete surprise.

As it turned out, while Donald Trump’s campaign staff were afraid to organize public rallies in favor of their candidate due to the coronavirus threat, their electorate was rapidly coming under the control of the Democratic Party, which promised much more than Donald Trump had to offer. Thus, the effect of “fatigue” of voters from anti-coronavirus measures led to the fact that Joe Biden became the 46th President of the United States.

Meanwhile, the US political system continues to be antagonistic. This state of affairs became apparent almost immediately after the votes were counted. So, the main struggle was unfolded exclusively in 3 American states, which traditionally voted for candidates from the Democratic Party until 2016, but in 2016 they suddenly voted for Donald Trump, while in 2020 they again preferred to see a “democrat” as head of the White House, that is, Joe Biden. Nevertheless, the voting results in 97% of the constituencies remained virtually unchanged.

The only significant difference in the current election campaign in the United States was that mostly representatives of “white” Americans voted for the candidate from the Republican Party, which was caused by the racist statements of Donald Trump. In turn, supporters of the “black” population and “Latinos” sympathized with the “democrats”. At least in the wake of the BLM movement and in the wake of the failure of the attempted military coup in Venezuela, Donald Trump proved to be a very unconstructive “strategist”, while Joe Biden preferred to remain neutral, which, in fact, earned the trust of groups of voters. Among other things, a big advantage for the “Democratic” candidate was the support of representatives of sexual minorities, who have enormous leverage in American society. Perhaps it was only because of this realization that Joe Biden expressed sympathy for American gays in some of his election videos.

However, the United States is still divided into two irreconcilable camps. Thus, 84% of American conservatives approve of Donald Trump, and 89% of liberals support Joe Biden. In addition, the position of the “Democrats” is usually quite strong in the big cities, while the “Republicans” have great influence in the border areas. Also, the majority of the middle class voted for Joe Biden, while Donald Trump won the support of young people and big business. It is also important that the majority of American Muslims voted for the “Democrat”, and American Protestants and Jews voted for the “Republican”.

Such racial, confessional and social popularization of society in the United States is unlikely to contribute to the peaceful recognition of the presidential election results. After all, the supporters of both candidates hate each other so much that they are ready to take up arms, defending their votes in the elections.

Donald Trump was certainly a bad politician. During his presidency, many Americans were gripped by fear for the fate of the United States and the world. The head of the White House practically weekly organized false starts in his policy, attacking international allies and world powers with harsh criticism, threatening the countries of Latin America and the Middle East with military conflicts. In this regard, the fears of American voters were entirely justified, since, in the end, Donald Trump’s actions could lead to catastrophic consequences on a global scale. For this reason alone, when he announced his victory on his Twitter immediately after the elections, the Americans reacted to his words with caution, preferring to wait for the final vote count. It was a kind of vote of no confidence in Donald Trump. However, if Joe Biden, during his presidency of the United States, fails to come to an agreement both internationally and domestically, then one can unmistakably say that already in 2024 the “Republican” president will also be forced to give up his seat.
